Porta potties with weekly service, roll-off dumpsters with swaps on call and locked storage containers, placed the week you break ground and pulled the week you finish. One quote, one invoice, one number for the whole job, from a rowhome rehab in South Philly to a multifamily build in Fishtown.

The Right Rentals for Every Phase of the Build

  1. 1

    Demo & Site Prep

A 20 or 30 yard roll-off on the lot or at the curb before the first wall comes down, a porta potty for the crew, and a container for the tools that used to ride home in the truck.

  2. 2

    Framing & Rough-In

Swaps keep up with the framing waste; the restroom count follows the crew as the electricians, plumbers and HVAC trades overlap. A hand wash station goes in where concrete and coatings start.

  3. 3

    Finishes

Cabinets, tile, flooring and fixtures land in the container weeks before they go in. A smaller dumpster handles packaging and offcuts, and a deluxe unit covers the client walk-throughs.

  4. 4

    Close-Out

One call pulls the restroom, the box and the container the week you finish. Billing stops at pickup, on one invoice.

What Philadelphia Contractors Need to Know

OSHA's Restroom Rule for Job Sites

OSHA's sanitation standard for construction, 29 CFR 1926.51, requires toilets at every job site, sized to the crew. Its table sets the minimum: one toilet for a crew of 20 or fewer; one toilet seat and one urinal for every 40 workers on larger crews; and one of each for every 50 once the crew passes 200. A single-stall porta potty with a seat and a urinal counts as both.

Two things trip contractors up. First, OSHA has said a toilet in an unsanitary condition doesn't count toward the required number, so a unit that isn't serviced is a unit you don't have. Second, the toilet has to be nearby, which OSHA's guidance puts at under ten minutes away for the crew to reach it. A gas station two blocks over doesn't meet that on a rowhome job, and a unit at street level doesn't meet it for a crew on the eighth floor. OSHA also expects hand washing facilities, with running water where the site has it. Our How Many Porta Potties Do I Need guide has the table and the math.

Philadelphia's Dumpster License & Street Permit

Every dumpster user in Philadelphia needs a dumpster license from L&I, whether the box sits on private property or in the right-of-way. A temporary construction dumpster on a street or sidewalk also needs a permit from the Streets Department's Right of Way Unit, and the Streets Department reviews the spot before it's approved. On a rowhome block that review is the whole question, so we settle the placement when we quote. See Dumpster Rental in Philadelphia for the details and our Philadelphia Dumpster Permit guide for the steps.

Tools That Don't Go Home at Night

A storage container on the lot is the cheapest insurance a rehab can buy: the tools, the ladders and the finish materials stay locked and dry on site, the crew starts on time, and the truck doesn't have to stay on the block overnight. A 20 foot box fits most rowhome lots; a 40 foot on a fenced site becomes the job's warehouse.

Why Contractors Call Once

Three vendors mean three delivery windows, three invoices and three dispatchers who don't know each other. Philly Portables puts the restroom, the dumpster and the container on one schedule, so the box is off the sidewalk before the unit is serviced and the container isn't blocking the roll-off truck.

Billing runs through us, on one invoice: porta potties and containers every 28 days until pickup, dumpsters per haul. Questions, swaps, extra service days and the pickup call all come to the same number, and we handle them with the crew placing your units. Contractor Questions

Can I get the porta potty, the dumpster and the container on one quote?

Yes. That's what Philly Portables is for. One quote lists all three with delivery, service and pickup; one invoice bills them; one number handles every change until the job closes out.

How many porta potties does OSHA require on my site?

One toilet for 20 or fewer workers, then a toilet seat and a urinal for every 40 workers, and for every 50 once the crew passes 200. A standard porta potty with a seat and a urinal counts as both. A unit that isn't kept sanitary doesn't count at all.

How fast can you place units on a new job?

Often within a day or two of your quote being accepted. Tell us the start date on the permit and we'll schedule the drop the day before the crew arrives.

Do you handle the dumpster permit?

We tell you which license and permit your address needs, where the box can legally sit and what the Streets Department will look at, and we size and place the box to fit. The L&I license and the Streets permit are issued to the dumpster user.

What if the crew grows mid-job?

One call adds a unit, a second service day or a swap. The quote tells you the price of each ahead of time so there's nothing to negotiate on the phone.

Do you bill per job or per month?

Restrooms and containers bill every 28 days until pickup; dumpsters bill per haul with a set number of days included. Card or bank autopay keeps a long job from needing a monthly phone call.
