Porta Potty Rental in Philadelphia: Every Unit We Place

Whatever the job calls for, it arrives clean and stocked and gets the same service schedule. Not sure which unit fits? Tell Us About the Job and we'll recommend a setup the same day.

  • Standard Porta Potty

The everyday unit for job sites and events: a ventilated single stall with a seat, a urinal, toilet paper and hand sanitizer, restocked on every service visit.

  • Deluxe Flushing Unit

A flushing bowl, a foot pump and a sink inside the stall, for weddings, graduations and customers who expect more than a standard unit.

  • ADA-Accessible Unit

A ground-level, wheelchair-accessible unit with handrails and room to turn, marked with the accessibility symbol for public events and sites open to the public.

  • Hand Wash Station

A free-standing station with fresh water, soap and paper towels, for food events and sites where concrete, paint or coatings are in play.

  • Luxury Restroom Trailer

A towed trailer with flushing toilets, vanity sinks, mirrors, lighting and climate control, from two stations up, for weddings, galas and VIP areas.

  • Weekly Service

Every unit on a job site is pumped, washed, deodorized and restocked at least once a week; event units are serviced around your schedule.

What Porta Potty Rental Costs in Philadelphia

Every quote is built around your job, not pulled from a rate card. Four things move the price most.

  • The Unit: A standard porta potty costs least. Flushing, accessible and hand wash units each add to it, and a luxury restroom trailer is its own rental.
  • How Long You Keep It: Job site units rent by the 28-day period and run until you call for pickup. Events rent by the day or the weekend.
  • How Often It's Serviced: Weekly is the baseline on job sites. A big crew, a summer heat wave or a client walk-through schedule often calls for a second visit a week.
  • How Many and Where: More units on one site cost less apiece. A tight rowhome block with no curb cut, or a unit that has to go up a floor, can add a step.

Delivery and pickup are on the quote, not a surprise on the invoice. Renewals bill every 28 days until pickup, by card or bank autopay if you want to stop thinking about it.

How Renting a Porta Potty Works, Start to Finish

  1. 1Tell Us About the Job. The address, your start date, how many people and what the site is. Not sure how many units? Our guide below has OSHA's table and we'll work it out with you.
  2. 2Get a Written Quote. You'll get a quote by email the same day listing each unit, the service schedule, delivery and pickup. Accept it on your private job page and the job is on the calendar.
  3. 3Delivery & Placement. The unit goes on level ground your crew or guests can reach, with room for the service truck to get back in. On a rowhome block we'll ask where the truck can stop.
  4. 4Service on Schedule. Each visit pumps, washes, deodorizes and restocks. If the crew grows or you need an extra pump-out before an inspection, one call adjusts the schedule.
  5. 5Pickup. When the job wraps or the event ends, call or email and the unit is pulled. Billing stops at pickup.

Choosing the Right Setup for Your Philadelphia Job

Rowhome Rehabs & Infill Lots

Most of Philadelphia's permits are pulled on rowhome blocks: a gut rehab on a 16-foot-wide lot, a new three-story infill on a vacant lot, a rear addition off a kitchen. There's no yard to hide a unit in and no driveway to put it on, so the porta potty usually goes in front of the house on the sidewalk, in the lot behind it, or inside the shell once the first floor is framed. Pick the spot before delivery day and keep a path open for the service truck, which needs to park close enough to run a hose.

A unit on the sidewalk sits in the city's right-of-way, so plan for how it shares the block with neighbors, parked cars and the trash pickup. Set it tight to the building line, keep the door facing the work, and tell us the block's street-cleaning and trash days so service visits don't land on top of them.

New Construction & Multifamily

A new apartment building in Fishtown or a townhome row in Point Breeze runs for months with a crew that changes trade by trade. The restroom count has to keep up. OSHA's table sets the floor, one unit for a crew of 20 or fewer and a toilet seat and a urinal for every 40 workers above that, but a crew that doubles for a framing push or a concrete pour needs more than the floor, and a unit that's dirty doesn't count toward the number at all.

Keep units at street level for deliveries and site staff, then add a unit on the working floors as the building rises so nobody walks down six flights. OSHA expects a toilet to be nearby, which its guidance puts at under ten minutes away, and a stair climb at the end of a shift is not nearby. When the building's own plumbing is working, the upper units come back down and the count drops.

Block Parties, Festivals & Races

Events turn on two numbers: how many people, and how long they stay. A three-hour block party and an all-day festival with the same headcount need very different setups, and an open bar pushes the count higher. Lines bunch up at predictable times, after the ceremony, between sets, at the finish line, so plan for the rush, not the average.

For anything open to the public, the ADA Standards call for accessible units: at least one in every cluster of portable toilets, and at least 5% of the total. For an evening event, put the units where there's light. Any event with portable toilets on public property in Philadelphia needs a portable toilet permit from the Department of Public Health, and a unit in a residential area has to be serviced at least every 48 hours. Our Events page walks through the permits and the counts.

Weddings & Private Events

For a wedding at a private home, a garden or a venue without enough plumbing, a luxury restroom trailer replaces a row of units: flushing toilets, real sinks, lights and heat or air conditioning. A two-station trailer covers a small wedding; larger guest lists get more stations or a second trailer. Deluxe flushing units are the middle ground for a backyard party or a graduation.

Trailers need a level spot, a path wide enough to tow them in and, for the larger ones, an outlet or a generator. Tell us about the driveway and the gate and we'll say what fits.

Long-Term Job Site Rentals

On a job that runs for months, the service schedule matters more than the unit. Weekly service is the baseline, but a crew of 20 in August can fill a unit well before the week is out. If a unit starts to smell or the paper runs out by Wednesday, the site needs a second unit or a second service day, not a stronger deodorizer.

Tell us when the crew size changes or a new trade comes on and we'll adjust the count or the schedule before the superintendent hears about it.

Clean Units, Serviced on Schedule

A porta potty that's only pumped is one your crew stops using. Every unit we place is serviced on schedule, at least weekly on job sites, and cleaned inside on every visit: pumped out, washed down, a fresh tank with deodorizer, and a full restock of paper and sanitizer. That keeps your crew on site instead of walking to a gas station, and it keeps you on the right side of OSHA, which has said a toilet in unsanitary condition doesn't count toward a crew's required number.

One number handles every change: a unit moved, a second service day in August, an extra pump-out before the inspector walks the site. Questions and service come to Philly Portables, and we handle them with the crew placing your units. For job sites, see Contractors & Job Sites.

Permits for Portable Toilets in Philadelphia

A porta potty on private property for a construction project or a home renovation doesn't need its own permit. Paperwork comes into play when the restrooms are part of a public event or sit in the public right-of-way.

Portable toilets at a public event need a Portable Chemical Toilet permit from the Department of Public Health's Environmental Health Services, and the city requires a unit in a residential area to be serviced at least every 48 hours. Events in a city park, on a street or at a rec center go through the Office of Special Events or Parks & Recreation as well, and their site plan shows where the restrooms stand. We'll tell you where ours go so the plan is right the first time.

A unit on a sidewalk or street is in the Streets Department's right-of-way, which is also where a construction dumpster needs its own permit. When you rent both for the same rowhome job, we line up the placement so one permit conversation covers it.

One Call for the Whole Job

Most contractors rent restrooms from one company, a dumpster from another and a container from a third, and chase three invoices. Here the restrooms, the roll-off and the container go on one quote, arrive on the same schedule and bill on one invoice, with one number for every change.

Before You Rent From a National Site

Six Questions Their Page Won't Answer. Ours Does.

The big rental sites are brokers: a call center that books a dumpster through a hauling partner, with no price, no rental days and no weight allowance on the page, and trip fees, overage fees and mattress fees in the fine print. Ask them these before you order. Then read what you get from us.

  1. 1. What does a porta potty cost for my site, in writing?

You get a written estimate for your exact site with the units, the weekly service and the 28-day rate stated on it, before you pay a dollar. Not "call for pricing," and no service fee that shows up later.

  2. 2. How many days and how many tons are included?

It's on the estimate. A dumpster quote states the rental period and the weight allowance in tons, and the overage rate per ton if you go past it. A restroom or container quote states the 28-day period. You accept those terms on your private job page, so there's never a surprise invoice weeks after pickup.

  3. 3. Who actually owns the truck, and who answers when it's late?

The person who quoted your job. We're a Philadelphia crew, not a national call center that "facilitates" a rental through a hauling partner you've never heard of. When you call about a late box, you reach the person who scheduled it.

  4. 4. Can I put a dumpster, a porta potty and a container on one order?

Yes, and that's the point. One quote, one invoice, one phone number for all three. A rowhome gut rehab gets its roll-off, its restroom and its container from one crew that plans the block once.

  5. 5. What about the permit and the parking lane?

We know Philadelphia's rules: the L&I dumpster license and medallion, the Streets Department's right-of-way approval for anything on the street or sidewalk, and the restricted zones. We size the box to the footprint the city will approve and tell you which applies to your address when we quote. Our guides spell it out.

  6. 6. What happens when the job runs long?

Nothing you have to think about. Porta potties and storage containers bill every 28 days on the card you saved until you tell us to pick up, so a long job never turns into "overage"; a dumpster bills per haul with its days and tons on the quote. Pickup happens on the date you give us, and you get a confirmation when it does.

Helpful Guides

Porta Potty Rental in Philadelphia: Questions

How much does porta potty rental cost in Philadelphia?

Price depends on the unit, how long you need it, how often it's serviced and how many you need. Send the address, dates and headcount and you'll have a same-day quote with no obligation.

How many porta potties do I need for my crew?

OSHA's table is the minimum: one unit for a crew of 20 or fewer, then a toilet seat and a urinal for every 40 workers, and for every 50 once the crew passes 200. Busy sites and hot months usually call for more than the minimum. Our guide below has the full table.

How often are the units serviced?

Job site units are serviced at least weekly: pumped out, washed, deodorized and restocked. Event units are serviced around the event, and a unit at a public event in a residential area has to be serviced at least every 48 hours under the city's permit.

Do I need a permit for a porta potty in Philadelphia?

Not for a unit on private property for a construction job or a renovation. Portable toilets at a public event need a permit from the Department of Public Health's Environmental Health Services, and anything placed on a street or sidewalk is subject to the Streets Department's rules for the right-of-way.

Can you put a porta potty on the sidewalk in front of a rowhome?

Often, yes, since many rowhome jobs have nowhere else. The sidewalk is the city's right-of-way, so the unit has to leave room for pedestrians and the block's trash pickup. Tell us the address and we'll say what works on that block.

Do you rent porta potties for one day?

Yes. A weekend event, a one-day race or a block party gets delivery before the event and pickup after. Job sites rent by the 28-day period.

Do you have accessible units and hand wash stations?

Yes. ADA-accessible units, hand wash stations, deluxe flushing units and luxury restroom trailers are all on the quote form.

What do you need from me to send a quote?

The delivery address, your start date and how long you'll need the units, plus a rough number of workers or guests. For an event, the hours matter too. With that we send a written quote the same day.

Can I rent a dumpster or a storage container at the same time?

Yes, and that's the point of Philly Portables. A dumpster for the demo and a container for the tools go on the same quote and the same invoice as the restrooms.
